Ok, my grandson's 95 Dakota started discharging and killing the battery, so he did the standard repair, a junk yard alt. still not charging. 2nd junk yard alt, still not charging.
I had an alt pulled off a known good truck thats been sitting on the shelf a few years, swapped that in, still not charging.
whats next?
I assume the charging system is regulated by the computer, can we add an old electronic voltage regulator and get this thing going for a while? Gene

It's pretty common for the charging part of the PCM to go, the option is an expensive PCM or external regulator. These are a pretty good set of instructions http://www.backyardmechanic.org/how-to-build-a-external-voltage-regulator-for-dodge-jeep-chrysler/

Great info! we have ordered parts and will probably be doing the external voltage regulator tomorrow. Gene
