They need the magnum rockers and valves and if you get the 318A it needs a magnum intake or redrilled intake bolt holes. If you get the 318B it still needs the magnum rocker gear but it has the LA bolt pattern already. They are desighned to use magnum valve covers but sposably you can use an LA cover. Pushrods are a different length than a 340, you need to make sure you have lifters that oil through the PR and you need hollow PRs. If it is a high compression factory 340 the pistons com up above deck about .017 or .018 and will hit the head unless you use a very thick gasket like .052 I think fel pro makes somethin like that.

If you use CompCams screw in studs and guide plates. You can use any 1.6 rocker for a small chevy. I just had a pair done by Ryan@ ShadyDell. Stage 3 porting flowed 269@.600intake 201 exhaust.

I called enginequest and the sales guy said the "B" heads would accept all stock rocker gear. By what you guys are saying sounds like he was wrong?
"stock" for a Magnum yes.....
They are Magnum heads... LA rocker gear will not work. But they do offer that head with LA intake bolt holes which is what Hemi471 has.
They are real nice heads & very cheap.

$560 for a pair of brand new heads fully machined with hardened seats....... that's cheap.
The new RHS/INDY X heads are little more $ & are avail assembled. They are also avail with LA rocker gear provision if that's what you're after.
Ryan, Have you seen the RHS heads yet? or pricing? Availability? Any info/opinions appreciated.

I just bought a set for my DD 83 D 250 (318) Nice heads; I am putting an RV cam in as well (smaller than I otherwise might considering the 1.6 RR the Magnum heads use vs the LA 1.5s; if you look, the standard 360 (non HP) is pretty much identical to a COMP 252 only with 0.015" less lift. Big deal; but T can get the 360 cam for 1/2 the price of the Comp around here; this is not a race motor but a heavy truck that occasionally gets USED like one! I have more $$$ in used Magnum heads and machine shop fees to find out the OE Mag heads are invariably cracked. (I have 5 cracked boat anchors sitting here as we speak and you don't wanna know how much $$ I have in them---wasted--- more than the pair of EQ heads cost me for sure. These are the exact same heads as some sell as "Iron Rams". Here's the EQ National sales director;I got a bit better deal than you show in an above post from this guy; NO middleman involved; Mark Moore Nat'l Sales Director-Engine Quest (800)-426-8771 x 209 E mail; mvm@aaeq.net

Looks like on RyanJs bench they flow about 10 cfm more than a regular magnum.

These heads are a great value... 1/2 the price of R/T heads and better quality. I used 2.02 intakes and some bowl work and they pushed my porky 3,900lb 83 cordoba to 13.2 @105 with a stroked 318 (390) For a street/strip combo less than 500HP I think these are the best choice...... TBF
