Is it ok to use a Mechanical Voltage Regulator on a car with Electronic Ignition. I know they make them with ELE internals. I talking about the black box type on a 69RR

Thanks TomRR

You can but shouldn't as the mechanicals do not maintain the voltage as well and can impact the performance of the electronic ignition. beer

They make a electronic regulator that looks kind of like a stock one.

Agreed. They are inexpensive. You can pick one up on E-bay for around $17 or $18 bucks. Looks just like the original only electronic.

it'll work, maybe for a period of time maybe forever. as said the spikes from the old type stresses the (electronic) ign system (to what extent I dont know, maybe slightly maybe more). since your RR ain't OE, you can get one (electronic) quickly/cheaply at your local parts house. EDIT there was a guy on here Mrrandy who was selling one that had the OE black cover with electronic guts for $29 to your door (iirc) and there was a parts house one that the black OE cover would reportedly fit but I dont remember the brand/part #. Wells 706 or 607 comes to mind but I dont remember if that was the one in question or just an electronic replacement that someone mentioned using at some point in time.

Or if you want it really correct, use your original cover. Also the OE cover will fit almost all.

If any of you guys can post the part number or post a link for the early(pre 1971) stock looking electronic regulator I would really appreciate that up I am doing a favor for a friend who has a 1963 Dodge Polara slant six car that he has installed a 1966 Street Hemi in it now and I am going to hook all the wires up and install one of Ma Mopar electronic ignition conversion kits and I don't want to leave the original(it is missing anyways) point type voltage regulator on the car and I would like it to look semi stock when I'm done help

The wells VR706 is a bolt in electronic replacement. it is half or less the "height" of the OE one (see eBay pic) & I used one way back & sounds like the OE black covers have a good chance of fitting onto it. I would purchase one which would get him going ASAP then see about locating an OE black cover. I may have one I'd send to you for the shipping.
