With another option to headers and a spin off from my other post on TTI header fitment, what about 5209 Hookers? Any big issues with getting these on. Same questions as to starter clearance, 11" flywheel with Lakewood bell housing. Eddy RPM heads with angled plugs, stock front suspension.. Also, what about Doug's D452 2" headers, same questions.

I had Hooker 5209 headers on the 440 w/ Edelbrock heads in my cuda, fit just fine. That was w/ an automatic though.

I have 5209 on my pile, angled plugs, but automatic and low deck so kind of hard to compare.

INDY SR heads on a low deck, which put the exhaust ports in the same location as a 440 with stock heads. Starter is a mini Denso from a '96 Ram.

Are you running an 11" flywheel? Larry I'm running Doug's D452 with an 11" wheel and an Ansen bell. I have a stock 318 Dakota Denso starter with plenty of room. I did have to cut some clearance notches on the flange of the bell to fit the tubes but they fit perfect otherwise. Looks like I have to decide on a tuned header(5209) or untuned (D452). Also looks like TTI's are out, seems like there are too many questions with fitment..

With those headers I've always had to trim the pass side of the bell housing "lakewood" to clear a tube.. I've done more than a doz..I've also had to trim with the headman hustler Indy head style header... I had to trim the flange on the passenger side of the bell housing with my CPPA's also. So that's already done. If I need to tweak it a bit, no big deal for me. If the fitment of the Hooker and the Doug's is good, the decision I have to make is on a tuned header vs. a non tuned header.

Well another thing about the super comps, they're 18 gauge with 5/16 flanges. Alot of folks don't like that...
Aren't the dougs and tti heavier gauge including thicker flanges?
(Maybe that would make a difference)

(Maybe that would make a difference) True, but the Doug's are not a tuned header and are more money. All three are 18 guage, difference is the flange thickness. Don't really know that the extra 1/16" would make that big a difference?

[quote=ZIPPY]Well, OK, both manufacturers list the wrong specs- http://www.ttiexhaust.com/MoparClassics-Headers/440-200/TTi440-200.htm"Material: Constructed of 16 gauge mild steel tubing." https://shop.dougsheaders.com/doug-s-hea...ic-coating.html"Heavy 16 gauge tubing... longer life"Zip, the heavy guage will last a long time. I don't know the thickness of my CPPA's, but I do know that they are well over 15 years old. Whichever I decide on, it will probably be the last set I buy for my car. I got to admit, I'm leaning toward the Hooker Super Comps. They are tuned, less money and don't seem to have any fitment issues out of the norm. The TTI's have too many questions marks as to starter. Can't really justify buying a $740 header, then have to buy a $240 starter. Not that I'm cheap, just frugal. Being on a fixed income, I got to watch where the money goes...

Still leaning toward the Hookers

I have fitted Hooker comp to auto and stick 440's.on my 68 satellite with 440 I had to clearance fully along top of the collector (driver side ) so it did not rest on torsion bar . On the stick , had scatter shield if I remember was no issue but was 10 years ago . Late last year I fitted a set of Hooker Comp to another 68 RRunner with 440 auto . Man did that need a lot of beating to clear driver side torsion bar and idler arm . Never again will I bother with Hookers . Plug access is average with Hookers as well . I fitted Dougs D452 this year on new 505RB wow . The fit was great , no beating and easier to access plugs . Seems the Hookers would fit better with a low deck , but after 40 plus years they should be better fit

Not that I'm cheap, just frugal. I have two pair, both purchased used, inexpensively, with minor "issues". One pair was like 25 bucks...the collectors were butchered, and looked like (poop). I welded on new collectors, they look great now, there they sit. The other pair is on my gtx, I think I paid $100 for them off moparts and they had several issues I was able to repair pretty easily, then another $250 or so to have them professionally coated by QC coatings here locally...This was about 15 years ago. That coating has since failed and they have small rust spots now. No you're not, you've always been cool around here and have a badass B body. I just wanted to point that material difference out to you in case you didn't notice. Alot of folks really dislike 18 gauge-5/16.

Whats wrong with the cppa headers? Still have a set in the barn that 22 years old, and might be going back into service if the Super comps hit my angled plugs. Here's the deal with my CPPA's. THIS year they developed a leak on the driverside. I can hear it as plain as day, but can't find the darn leak. I've replaced the flange gaskets and collector gaskets. It sounds like the #7 tube, but I can't narrow the noise down to what is leaking. The driverside is a pain in the butt to install or remove, especially with a stick car. I probably won't do anything til the winter when I put the car up on jacks and do my "winter projects" on it. Hopefully when I get the header off, I'll find what is leaking and be able to weld it up. Right now, I'm doing research on what header to buy, just in case I can't fix or find what is wrong.

I could not get the 5209 to fit in my Charger (RB Block) and Edelbrock Heads. <1/16 inch to torsion bar on the passenger side and I would have had to smash the driver side to get it in. Gave up and ordered TTi and sold the Hookers.
You guys are scaring me! I bought a ceramic set to put in my 69 GTX with a 440. I have been runnimg the 5209's in my 67 Coronet for forever - on my second or third set in the car and it fits great in that car. Would it help if cut the headers and dropped the collector some? I had to do that when I went with the SR heads with a RB in the Coronet. I do have a second set of new 5209s that are not ceramic coated.
