I'm trying to count the splines in a torque converter that I have. I believe that it is a 727 converter. The very inner set of splines comes out to be 24 splines. The upper or outer set comes out to be 27 splines.
Which set do I use for the count?

The inner splines are the ones that connect to the input shaft, 24-splines is a '67-later non-lockup 727.
