Don't worry about it, you don't need them. Or you can lay the gasket up there and drill one, or two.

Just for reference for those doing searches in the future KB blocks have a larger diameter flange at the top of the bore sleeve and the steam holes are relocated from the factory location. Stage V heads can be ordered with the steam holes in the KB location or on aluminum heads they can be plugged and moved. Cometic makes gaskets with the steam holes in the KB location.

Back in 2006 when I bought my KB Hemi block, KB was the only place you could get those special Cometic gaskets w/ the steam holes relocated. I welded the holes shut in my MP heads and redrilled them using the gasket as a pattern.

They are talking about the 2 holes circled here. Called "steam holes" by the exhaust port. These are in a slightly different location on a KB block.

Hi,
Newbie here. Sorry for this questions what is the purpose of the steam holes? Will engine run cooler with them? Please educate me on the steam holes. I'm running stage 5 heads.

Ken

Those holes where originally used on the 440 HD motor home blocks for extra coolant around the exhaust valve area, maybe on some of the NASCAR race blocks also confused
If your using the motors as a drag race only application you don't need them, if it is street and strip then it wouldn't hurt to have them twocents

These holes were moved down because if you lay a stock gasket on a KB block with steam holes you will notice the holes in the gasket overlap the top flange of the sleeve, giving you a $6000.00 sprinkler head.
