The car is a 1969 Barracuda convertible. I do not have the old top, only the frame which I have cleaned and painted. When researching sources for a top, the question came up concerning a headliner. Do these cars have a separate layer of material inside the bows that form a headliner, or are you just looking at the underside of the top material when the top is up? Thanks.

At one time I had an original 69 dart convertible. Today I have a 65 coronet convertible, a 66 valiant convertible and a 89 dakota convertible. None of these convertibles had an internal sound denting head liner. You are looking at the underside of the top. I have a frind who had a 90's pontiac trans am convertible, it had the head liner under the top.
On another note I replaced the factory white top on my 65 with one from legendary. It did not have a white underside like the original. It was black on the underside and white on the top side. I had to paint the top frame black so it would not look crazy on the inside. My 66 had the the original top replaced in the 1985. It was originally blue/blue. It was replaced with with a black/black. So what I am getting at. Buy your top so you know what color you need to paint the top frame so it will look good.

This is the tail of my screen name also.

Thanks convx4. The original top for my car was black, but I want to change to a white top since I think it would look better with a red body and white seats/door panels. The frame is black and I just cleaned it up and repainted it, still black. Would that work with a white top, or would some black frame paint scuff off onto the white underside of the top? Should the frame be white?

I agree. I don't think I have seen anything but black frames.
The 90 lebarons had separate headliners that velcroed to the frame.

I wanted an added headliner to help quiet the noise, but the guy that did my top didn't say it was economically feasible for him to do it. There are other shops that can build you anything you want, but most tops are pre-sewn and then installed.

I opted for a high quality German Canvas top to replace the old torn factory one. It looks 1000% better than vinyl in my view. I also only like the glass rear windows. The plastic ones look so cheap.

3hundred- thanks for the interior pics. I called several top suppliers and learned that they come with a black inner liner no matter what color the top is. That confirms why the frame is always black. I pulled the trigger on a top and boot cover. I ordered the glass rear window, just like the original. Now I have a 4-5 week wait!! Thanks.
