I have the heads off my original low compression 340 engine in my 72 Duster. I want to measure the deck height, the #1 piston is down in the hole at TDC. I haven't measured it yet. The engine has been rebuilt once. The pistons have dual valve reliefs so they have probably been replaced. Does anybody know what the stock measurement should be?

Which piston was used? If Sealed Power the comp height is 1.829" If Silvolite it is 1.824"

Using the 1.829 number the piston should be 0.007" below the deck, if the deck is 9.600".

FWIW, I have a 71 340 short block with .030" #2332 pistons. The pistons are right at deck. I'm gonna measure later, but they almost are above the deck, although it may have had block decked.

I will be measuring in the next few days. The engine was rebuilt long before I bought the car and that was 19 years ago so I don't know what pistons were used. I will get back.
