So; for years I've run Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro tires with inner tubes that had a rubber pull through valve stem. I sold the tires and wheels off and just got some new ones. the tubes that I bought this time have a metal threaded valve stem that clamp to the wheel however; the stem diameter is to large to fit through the hole in the wheel. The new wheels are chrome and I don't like the idea of enlarging the hole.

Does anyone know where I can get some tubes with a rubber valve stem? I've looked on-line and really haven't found anything for a DOT style drag tire.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Check with M/T ,Hoosier and Coker to see if they have any you can use scope I think I may have a decent set of used ones if you can't find any new ones you like, what is the maximum outside diameter of the stems you can use ?

Cab, I currently have Mickey Thompson tubes; the ones that I'm having the issue with. I've looked at Cooker, Hoosier, Jegs, Summit and a few other vendors; all seem to have the metal valve stems in the size I need.

I'll have to measure the OD of the hole and get back to everyone.

I wish I still had the wheels I sold; I would have just re-used my old tubes.

Thanks for the reply!

Were the pull through valve stems tubes racing tubes? I have seen guy's use implement tubes , they have pull through stems. There not the same as racing tubes but will work for the large street tires.

Yes, the tubes I bought are racing tubes. I really don't know where the tubes I had for years that I just sold came from; I bought them used. I did find a guy on E-bay that has a lot of rubber stem tube options one being Firestone brand name. I sent him a message to see what his suggestion is so; hopefully I hear back from him tomorrow.

I would never use tubes that I didn't know how old they were. Racing tubes are not cheap being close to $100. each . Trying to save a few bucks could cost you a lot more. On the subject of drilling your new rims. The nut that retains the metal valve stem will cause more damage than the drill bit. Another thing to keep in mind when putting tubes in slicks. The tubes have to be able to move, if you don't use a lot of tire talc the tube will stick to the tire rip. Also, If you put tubes in slicks that have previously were soaped to prevent leakage , all the soap residue needs to be rinsed out completely and dried or the tube will stick to the tire and rip even with tire talc.. Unlike a tubeless tire your tire will go flat within a minute when the tube rips..

I just drilled mine out when I ran into this. My wheels aren't chrome, but I think if you tape them first, you'd be fine. Rubber valvestems arent NHRA legal at some performance point I believe. Something to be aware of.
