Hey guys,
I'm not getting power to the rear body connector for the tail lights on my 70 Coronet R/T. I have headlights, brake lights but no tail lights. Checked the fuse and its good (used an ohm meter).
I have a new switch to put in it but I'm hoping someone can tell me how to bench test a headlight switch before I put one in the car.
I messed around with a couple of spare switches I have and used an ohm meter with one lead on the power in and the other lead on the power out to the tail lamps. Flipped the toggle switch and had a connection in the parking light (middle position) but nothing in the headlight on position. All my switches are like this so I'm kind of assuming that's how they should be, but is there a better way to test on a bench?
Thanks

I think there is a connector behind the left kick panel that connects the dash harness to the rear harness. Might want to check/test it?

That is what I checked to see if power was making it to the rear harness. I have no power at the connector. The Black wire on the connector is directly off the back of the switch, hence my thought that the switch has an internal problem. I.E. I have power to the headlights but not the tail lights.

Power for the tail and instrument lamps is a separate feed than the headlights. It comes from the fuse box on a pink wire to the headlight switch. It comes out of the switch on a black wire and goes to the body connector and then onto the taillights, license lamp. the same terminal on the H/L switch also feeds the instrument lights via the panel dimmer.

Unplug connector from headlight switch, common problem is corrosion. Terminals corrode and cause high resistance which causes heat. Check connector for heat damage and loose terminals.
