Came across a 440 engine with no vin number stamp on the passenger side pad by oil pan and the date casting is 1-26 70 The top of the DS front pad where all the ID numbers are reads:

440 W T and a 9 9

I read in Galens white book that the W T means water tested and then in parentheses it says (Found on warranty and most 426 Hemi engines)

Does this mean it could have been a warranty block?

The engine is complete and the heads, intake, Valve covers, timing cover, balancer, and oil pan are all orange and the engine block appears to to have never been painted.

Here is the info from his book, what do you all think?

warranty block makes sense

scope look for a rivet (or rivet hole) around one of the freeze plugs passenger side of block

I would agree and say it is a warranty engine because I have one that came with my car.I have the 2nd owners history of when he blew up the original engine and had the dealer put this one in. Its cast date is 1-20-70 and has 440 WT 2 1 on its ID pad. It too is painted orange and has the big rods and 4 relief pistons in it. It is a low miles standard bore block with no VIN stamp on the pan rail and 402 pan. I will be listing it for sale soon. It has no cylinder ridge and visible cross hatches in the bores still. The internals, crank, rods pistons are shiny clean.I will post pictures soon when I decide what to price it out at. Any thoughts on its worth as a shortblock?

If a warranty block, would it always have a tag on it? I will need to look for the rivit hole if that is the case.

Well "always" have a tag on it? thats the question. Mine did not have one attached to it. I will check for the rivet hole though.

The only "always" in Moparland is that one can always find an exception to what is "supposed" to be there.
