hello, so I purchased a 340 4spd a few years ago and finally am getting around to installing it. I purchased new zbar and that good stuff from brewers. Trans came with no linkage but had a hurst shifter mounted. I ordered abody linkage. my questions are,

1) there is a lot of play on the shifter side of the linkage, is there supposed to be a plastic bushing in the shifter hole?

2)never had a 4spd a833 don't even know the shift pattern lol. but it seams like my shifter has no left or right movement. is this something that will only work when the linkage is in?

It depends on which shifter you have, some of the OEM Hurst shifters for production Mopars came with steel bushings and some didn't shruggy Either way there should be very little slop, not a bunch tsk
A lot of the over the counter after market Hurst shifters for Mopars came with plastic bushing so maybe yours are missing work Measure the hole in the shifter arms on the shifter and the ends of the pins of the linkage arms that slide into the arms and post them on here, maybe we can figure out what you need to tighten them up luck

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

1) Hurst Pit Pack for the bushings and clips Summit has them
2) sounds like you need to adjust the shifter. Lots of videos out there.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

A BING search for "rebuilding Hurst shifter" came back with 251,000 hits. There are many videos, as well as written instructions.

I seem to remember there being model name and/or number stamped onto either the forward or rearward portion of the black main body.

Good Luck!

R.
