"DUMB QUESTION:"
Are the holes on the outside skin the same size as the holes on the inner skin?
This is for a clone car, but I still would like it to look correct.
Any pictures, anybody?

Heres an original. Pretty hard to duplicate without tooling.

That picture should help you a LOT! Now you can at least see what we're talking about.
Does your trunk lid already have these square cut outs? (71 lids & about half the 70 lids did)
If not, then your first step will be to make these 4 rectangular holes. Options are... 1. find an original lid in good shape that has them 2. order a new AMD lid that has them 3. cut them out yourself
I couldn't find an original in good shape, and AMD lids weren't available yet when I did mine, so I chose to cut mine out myself. First Place Auto Products has a template available to show you where to cut out these 4 rectangular holes. I bought it, and it's far better than being clueless, but I was NOT impressed with it overall. (The template is raised from the surface quite a bit in the area your supposed to mark your cutouts, leaving a large variable in the angle & diameter of your pencil/marking instrument.) I ended up making my own template off of a poor condition original lid. I made the template by applying masking tape to the lid with the cutouts (in multiple layers & directions to minimize tape stretching during removal), make the cutouts in the tape with a razor blade and cutout a few other reference holes, Carefully remove the tape and place it on your lid lining up the reference holes, take some measurements off the original to make sure your template is in the right spot, then mark where your cutouts should be (I used a sharpie), remove your tape template & cutout the holes. I really think some kind of template is important for this. Measuring is very difficult due to the numerous curves of the inner trunk lid.
All 4 of the rectangular holes are the same size, and they have rounded corners, not square corners. I found the best way to cut them out was to drill the corners with a drill bit, then use a dremel tool to cut out the straight parts, and finish with a file. (don't let your metal pieces fall down inside the trunk lid or you'll have a rattle) It's tough to cut a straight line in metal that's so curvy, so be prepared to use up a lot of your patience.
After you've got those 4 holes in the right spot you can worry about getting the spoiler positioned correctly. Take note of where the phillips head spoiler screws are located by the edge of the trunk in the left part of that picture. Their position can help you a little to get the spoiler lined up.
You said this was for a clone. Is the spoiler you're using original, repro plastic like original, or repro fiberglass?
