I might try and make it to Bowling Green for the Doug Duell race May 18-21
I have a 65 Belvedere that I will need to make a few changes to fit the rules,,mostly carb/intake issues.
Currently have a Victor intake and 1050 Dominator.
( i read the rules so i realize i need either a carter, AFB, edelbrock )2x4 or 1x4 set up.

I have TWO carter 750 carbs at home ( came of a previous NSS race car,,,but never ran them on mine ),,,so i will have a "friend" go thru them with me,,,

I can either run a adaptor for my victor intake and bolt on one of the 750s ???

Does the INDY 2x4 intake bolt or work with Edelbrock RPM heads ?? Will this only work if the heads are max wedge port(ed)?

Car runs 10 teens usually as it sits with the dominator ( best was a 10.04 ),,,

I am thinking I could run the 10.50 index ? with one carb and the adaptor ?
I don't know what it would do with the 2x4 set up ?

This is all NEW to me,,,so i am trying to find my way with the setup,,,,
really don't want to mess with how the car is currently set up,,,but would like to try some NSS stuff

any help appreciated
Doug

Brett Wheeler is running the Indy Mod Man with two Eddys. His car runs B index, 10.50. I thinks its even run A 10.0 at times.

If you want to run NSS and have stock intake ports, the Indy modman, edelbrock 2x4 are the cheapest bolt on manifolds. I ran a 64 crossram with at first with 906 heads ported close to maxwedge, you can't get them all the way, and then the crossram with victor Jr. heads with max wedge ports. I now run a victor intake with a fabricated 2x4 top. I run 750 AFB carbs on all those combinations. Their is a little difference in NSS rules with different groups, for example no single four combos are allowed with the Victory series NSS. So check with the group you want to run with. I would probably choose the modman intake with your combination. Some say a divider installed in the plenum picks this manifold up a little. I started on the 11.00 index now run 9.75 Lot of guys worry about getting the AFB's to run, but with a few minor modifications they run very well. I know several NSS cars in the 8's with a pair of AFB's.

That race is NMCA rules -

•Chrysler Wedge;Inline or cross-ram 2x4 or single 4bbl intake with Carters, AFBs, or Edelbrocks

The other issue is hood scoop

HOOD/SCOOP (NSS Classes): Hood scoops limited to OEM equipment or period style. Hood/scoop may be no higher than 5 inches. Pro stock-style scoops prohibited. The entire induction system must be completely covered by hood or scoop, which must be part of the vehicle hood. (FX Classes): Not required

Doug is correct. I run the modman and run mostly B. I run A when it just doesn't make sense to slow the car down .60. Meaning if i look at the weather and can go 9.85-9.90, I move the car to A. Otherwise I just back it up to run B.

The modman will bolt up to your heads and work just fine. I have mine opened up to Max Wedge ports to match my SR ports.

My tests were not true back to back tests. I had a fuel delivery issue on my last pass with a single plane and single holley. I do not think there is any more than 5 hundredths between the intakes on my car.
It should serve you well. If you are in Kentucky, you have a ton of opportunities for NSS races with relatively short tows.

I think the modman would be your best bet, seen several cars with them and everyone was happy with them.
As for the carbs, put the 2 750's on, start with stock jetting and metering rods. Put the pump rod in the top hole (biggest pump shot) and check linkage for wot. You should be close enough to have a fun weekend.

Hey Doug how you been? The 440 in the 65 when you bought it from me , would run 10.50 in the 1/4 with 2 Edelbrock 750. But that was with a mopar M1 Tunnel Ram. So with your new engine you shouldn't have a problem hitting your ET goal

My brother ran the Modman intake and two Eddy (Carter) carbs on his 64 and it dipped into the 10.0's. The club he runs with the 422 club changed their rules and he can now run any single carb and intake. So he switched to the Indy single plane and a Dominator and has run only about a tenth faster as his best now is 9.94. Ron

Thanks everyone for the help!! I have 2 750 carbs ready to go. I will look into the Indy Modman and do some research. Doubt I will be ready for Bowling Green so might end up spectating. Thanks again for the help. Doug

Doug, the mod man will work but I think the indy cross ram that most of the nss racers use make way more power. Jake

I believe he is limited by port size.

You can always give it a shot with a single carb for the Dave Duell classic. Some folks have no issues with single edelbrock carbs, some fight a bog. It would get you to the race.

Don't think the port dimensions are going to work on this one (unless you plan on changing heads too?).

But, I am not a NSS racer so I will go back under my rock now.

I am sure the -25 intake makes more power, but I would like to see them back to back with the same carbs just to see the difference.

Mine was an existing car that I converted the induction on to become NSS legal. The modman and spacers for restrictor plates fit under my hood scoop without modification. The -25 and spacers would not. So I went the modman route.

I cant add any real info on the best intake to run, since all I've run in the class is either the stock crossram and the Indy one, but I will strongly recommend the DD Classic, its a great race to attend. Lots of really good cars to race, at a great old track. My advice, figure out something and drive on down.

I've ran one NMCA NSS event and I chose to use a single Eddy 850cfm carb(on e85). The dual 4 set up just wasnt something I was interested in investing in for only a handful of races at most. It was my first try at a NSS event and I was a .10 off my index and had no idea how to go about slowing it down .50 to be able to go up an (nss/d 11.50) index with only two time runs. I wasnt prepared for the race and I took it all in as experience. I'll be more ready for the next time I run a NSS event. I had no issue with a bog footbraking my car with the single 4 carb. I just wasnt very good at it since I had never footbraked my car before..like I said I wasnt prepared..lol. I suggest doing whatever you decide very quickly and get some laps in with whichever combo you decide to use. I was a sitting duck when eliminations came around and I knew it..but all in all I had a blast racing with the group and will definitely do it again.

Doug I forgot to mention the Indy requires a maxwedge port.
