After looking at my 70 bench seat tracks, I have come to the conclusion that they need a little more work envolved in taking them apart and repairing them than I have time to do myself right now. Who out there does a good job on restoration of these seat tracks?

I haven't restored my seat track yet, but I will probably disassemble, powder coat and reassemble them myself. There was a previous post that showed how to separate the track halves to clean and restore. Shouldn't be that difficult to do on your own.

Here's the thread:

That is true - I was.

But with a full time job, two part time jobs & trying to keep up with all the registry contacts, I do not know when I will have time.

My 67 tracks looked impossible to disassemble at first look..

If you look closely there is a slot at one end you slide to and they come apart.. Simple to clean, blast and paint, and reassemble....

I figured out what the difference was and how they come apart. All bucket seat tracks attach to the seat bottom with a screw. These have a stud and the head of the stud acts like a stop and will not let it come apart. I removed the stud and got it apart. The roller had jumped over the inner stop so I don't have any missing parts. My top part and trip lever are worn so I need to find another track or just parts to repair mine.

For E-Body buckets seats (the only ones I can attest to) it is actually not necessary to remove the studs - the head does not stop disassembly. It may seem like it does, but it doesn't. The post referenced deals with what is required.

The stud I am refering to is not the one that attaches to the floor but the one that is up on top and attaches to the seat. I've had plenty of ebody and b body bucket tracks apart. I' have a better set on the way so I will look closely at these. Mine had issues that would be time consuming to repair so I found another set.

A '70 B-body bench seat track so you can see the studs Mark is referring too.

thumbs thumbs My bad, did not read the post properly! On my 71 E-body buckets I did not have any trouble there - IIRC they were bolts not studs in that specific application (seat tracks to seats). Maybe they varied, or maybe mine had been replaced by a previous owner

I am sure it depends on the model year & application just like anything else.

Bolts for '70 up buckets are normal.
