What years is this coupler top seal for? 62-7X?

Also when did Chrysler switch to that orange style seal (same shape black aftermarket one)?

PS Sorry for the picture size and clarity. After probably 100,000 pictures, 5 cameras and FINALLY the correct lighting I think I'm getting a handle on it.

I always thought the orange were incorrect replacement parts not factory installed pieces?

Would love to hear if theyre factory when they began.

I have this seal on my '71. It's orange and I always thought that the orange was an aftermarket seal. I'm also missing the steel clip on mine. Where do you get those?

My 71 had a black one from the factory. I've never seen a original orange one. But that doesn't mean they aren't out there. I don't think 71 had the big spring retaining clip, I think it was a dealer thing to hold the coupler together. I put one on mine though cause it's almost impossible to get the factory retainer to stay on.

I've only seen black ones. That big clip is a dealer installed item when they worked on the coupler. Yep, those lids don't go back on too easily

The steel clip was never factory, but it was a Chrysler issued part to deal with a problem.
They're pretty awesome, I like them.

I think all the muscle car era had black seals, not sure up until what year.
The orange ones came later. They're probably original for something, but I'd guess it's much later than our cars.

It's always great to see you working on stuff Jim.
Are you going to start offering these seals in black?
I know that I prefer the black ones.

I guess I could add a little more specific info.

My 70 Challenger, built near the end of August 1969, had a black seal.

I cant say for sure when they switched but never seen an orange one on any original muscle cars. My 75 dodge pickup had black, changed it a lot.

I'd much rather buy a black than an orange one.
