I would like to see some original paint shaker hoods that have markings on the underside of them, done an the assembly line.

I have seen a few originals with X marks on them..

Does anyone know what it could mean?

Can you share a photo of what you have seen and where on the hood it was.
I have seen one or two originals but cant recall seeing that.

Sorry I didn't get time to check my N96 Challenger or my NOS Challenger hood. It will have to wait until I am back home.

However I do know that my 70 Superbee Coupe Sixpack has a black X on the firewall

Its far from all that have it..

First of all, its a VERY easy marking to wipe off, its a pretty fragile marking, a heavy hand with a wash cloth and its gone. Also, who said they all had it?

Im guessing the letters is maby assembly line inspectors signature checking the hood..

Tough to say exactly what it's for but an inspection marking of some kind of another is very likely. May or may not have anything to do with the shaker hood.

A really good dealer prep team would have those marks removed before the car was on the showroom floor and definitely before it left the lot.

There were not many really good dealer prep teams back in the day. But there were a few.
