lets say i wanted to spray and is able to how thin would it. same as rolling or thicker
thin it to about 25% mineralspirits to spray, with a HVLP gun. presure set at 30-45psi. you could also use acetone, but i found it to flash too quick.

but wait when u thin it that much u spray one coat on like a mist...then u gotta wait for that to dry and then u gotta clean ur paint gun out otherwise it will clog and all that then the next day spray again then wetsand then clean gun out and then over and over again...to be honest cleaning out the gun is a paint in the [Edited by Moparts - Keep it clean]. i would like to spray it too but i havent had any luck as of yet to the method...plus i get unpatient and then spray another coat before the first one dries and it looks all weird with orange peel and stuff.

clean up is very easy. basically the procedure for spraying is: mix about 25% minerial spirits, spray a THIN coat. let dry for 6-8 hours, re-coat, wetsand every 3 coats or so with 1000+, clean the gun with mineral spirits, place your left over paint in a seperate container and re-use it, keep the spirits from cleaning the gun and re-use that too, just spray the mineral spirits thru the gun, and clean the pickup and tip in a jar, let it sit in the jar. it's super easy, but if your going thru all the trouble of spraying, use an automotive paint, although the process is alot harder (ie: spray primer, sand, primer, primer sealer, then color, mix all the reducers/hardners according to humidity and temperature).

How does yours look like up close? Is it as smooth as it looks? Mine is on the fourth coat and there is still a bit of orange peel look going on...im gettin a little worried Yours looks nice and smooth, is it? like any other car? or is there a textured look to it?

Finally got started on the dart paint tonight. The bodywork turned out good! Nothing horribly wrong with it, but there were some long dents here and there (like down the passenger 1/4 panel) and lots of small dings. The color is Rustoleum Pro "safety red". This first coat went on nice and smooth, I saw a run or two develop but just rolled over it a few times. Also saw a few specs of crap in the paint which I just pulled off the surface then rolled over.
It's thin and partially transparent at this point after only 1 coat.
It took me quite awhile, 1.5 hours. I had to re-thin the paint part of the way through. I think now that I have the hang of it I should be able to do future coats in less time.
Here's a couple of pics..
Looks awesome, thats the color i bought for my duster. Its hard to see but how is the actual paint laying out. Is it going down flat? is it a little peely? can you somewhat describe how it looks, from the pictures i've taken of mine it looks better than it really is in the pictures.
Thanks!

It's laid down flat as of the time I walked away from it. In my experience, it only gets flatter as it dries. It is on there very thin as you can see, and where there's bondo it has absorbed a lot of the paint there. The only time I noticed any thing like orange peel was when the paint wasn't thin enough and/or I had put too much of it on. I would then "wring" out the paint on an unpainted surface nearby, then roll over the area with too much paint a few times. I was surprised at having to add more mineral spirits, but it was absolutely necessary. If not the paint doesn't lay out as well and seemed to get picked up easier by the roller where wetter/thinner paint stayed put. The one "bad" thing that stands out now are the sanding scratches on the hood and decklid. They will still be visible after 6 more coats, but will be mostly hidden.. At least that's my experience with the Almond color. I'm not going to use this hood anyways

Finally after several months you have started rolling your car. And by the way looks good Congratulations!!! You can mix the paint with mineral spirits, a whole can in advance and keep it in a juice bottle. That way you can have in you tray just what you need for each panel. Always keep the lid on. About the scratches from sanding, I had some rough areas in my bug, but after the 2nd coat they are almost gone

Here's a few pics of my Wagon as of tonight. 3 coats on the hood, and one coat on the roof. Let me know what you think.. Please pardon the sucky pics, it is a dark rainy night. Also, I am not done on the roof around the hatch, that will all be painted. More to come, my batterys were dying. I should be doing the sides tomorrow if the weather wants to cooperate with me. Before wetsanding today I could not scratch the paint. I love this paint. Rustoleum, bondo, and duck tape are your friends.

I'm stripping most of the paint off of my 66 Tempest (surface rust) and have two questions about prep. Planning on using phosporic acid to deal with the rust, but what's next? Do I need to neutralize it, or would wiping it down with mineral spirits be enough?
Also, I have six rattle cans of Tremclad gray primer and I really can't see a downside in using them as a base - can anybody think of a reason not to?

Exit1965 looking good... I will be eagerly awaiting your finished product. Good luck, I am sure you will have success. Cannot wait to see how that safety red looks after 6 coats too.

Not a problem, we're all here to help. There is alot of information and pages to go through, I just happen to have been through them all. I can't wait to start on my test peice hopefully this weekend. I bought Green tremclad from Walmart, just have to find something to test it on.
I have a question about wet sanding and pollishing. How do you wet sand and pollish edges, small areas, small (1-2 inch) convex trim, door jams, pillars, etc?
