I have a 1969 Dana 60 out of Dodge Charger. I am trying to identify and purchase the correct axle seals (inner that press into the housing).

From doing some reading it says some seals fit both 8 3/4 and Dana. I have a set of extra axle seals on the shelf for a 8 3/4 but the outer diameter is a bit too big to fit into the Dana housing. I don't have the original Dana 60 seals that came out to reference a part number.

Anyone happen to know of a make and part number that would possibly fit?

Thanks, Wolf.

Wolfe,Dana 60 seals are different than 8 3/4.The mopar part # for the Dana is 2852574.You will need to cross this to a national seal #. John.

Exactly, that is the silly part. It is the seal you want.

I would be careful using that ford 51098 seal,as it is a thicker body and the A7 bearing retainer "will/could touch" that seal and concave the seal ...and could cause that type of seal to leak..IMHO
but if you've used it and not had a problem all the power to ya...plus its a bunch Cheaper than the 481837 Nat seal.:)

These guys are right, I ran into this myself a few years ago, here's a shortened down version of what I did.....
Quote:

Thanks Dr. Diff!!
I checked at the local Napa for the 67 Ford 1/2 ton pickup with 9.75 dana. The seals listed for it fit!
They are Napa part # 15142 for those of you who may need them. They are a little smaller than the ones the parts book listed that wouldn't fit, just like the doc said.
Also, some more info for you guys doing your own boogie with a dana 60. I needed a "speedy sleeve" for the yoke (a sleeve that fits over the groove worn in the yoke by the seal and 30 plus years of use). All three parts stores in town listed the sleeve, no one had it in stock, but were glad to order it for me, at the cost of around $25-$30 bucks. I asked a lifelong parts man about a sleeve, he looked at it, says "I think I have what you need" (didn't look it up) walked back up from the back with Carquest # A226-2 sleeve, fit perfect, $6 bucks!!
One last thing, Dr. Diff, the axle bearing locking collar is still available by itself, Timken # K108601 (from A&W Bearing in Texas).
Thanks for the help guys.

jt
