Im getting ready to dump in a comp hydro 525/540 lift cam in a project and am not sure what the best lifter is.

Im wondering whats the difference in the two sets I can use if any.

One set has a much stiffer plunger spring in it, what does this indicate? Dry and from the box.

Thanks

one is a comp 822 and the other is the ones delivered with the mopar hydro cams.

My comps are older with the snap ring and has a weaker plunger, the mopars have a spring clip and a stiffer plunger.

Thanks.

Well, the 822 is the bottom rung lifter from Comp, sort of an OEM replacement. Not sure about the mopar ones.

Ive had the cam for a long time, comps wonderful tech line says thats the lifter to use.

Ive not used a hydro lifter on one of my build in nearly 30 years with the exception of my tow van and it didnt matter what lifter was in the kit, it just needed to work.

I was leaning to use the 822-s because they are from the late 80-s and maybe a better grade material and have been told the snap ring is better then the wire clip that I can remove with my fingernail.

Its a pretty aggressive cam for a hydro, but I feel the whole build would do better with this one the the mopar 508/292.

Those are Comp's version of a bleed down lifter, like the Rhodes. Sort of a way to tame a bigger cam for the street.
