This has been going on for over 1300 miles now
It’s an early 2003 ram diesel, automatic 35 gallon fuel tank with 225,000 miles
I initially thought it was a bad tank of fuel, but it’s been going on for too long
I did change the fuel filter shortly after the problem started
As your driving along the truck loses throttle, like you're out of gas, but a second or 2 later its ok and you keep running
It’ll only stall if you're stopped or going very slow, like under 15 mph
It appears to be effected by stopping and going
I can travel 300 miles and it doesn’t happen, but if I’m stopping and going a lot (driving in an area with a lot of stop lights) it can do it as often as every 5 or 10 miles. But not always
It was also doing it when I would first start and take off after 1 mile, then wouldn’t do it again, until after I would stop and then go again
It’s not the most consistent, but the above is the best handle on it that I can get
I was thinking either something in the fuel tank or the lift pump (fuel pump) in the tank
Any ideas?

Lift pump rear of filter housing. They make a replacement thats direct fit without putting one in the tank, aftermarket. Throttle position sensor they also make one that is after market without changing entire assembly. Rear of high pressure fuel pump CP3 is a small fuel control actuator that can be purchased separately but only from cummins not chrysler. These are the 3 things to try first. Try the cummins diesel chat board. If you don't have any luck with that ask Donnie Kirkland ( or Fuddy) if he has some barbwire that will fix it for sure.

First thing is to check fuel pressure. where is a good place to tap into to check it? and since the problem is very intermittant wouldnt the fuel pressure gauge have to be conected when the problem happens? im pretty confident its fuel related

If you always wanted something like an Edge tuner, this would be a good time to purchase. I have and Edge in my 2003 CTD for the gauges. Plugs into your OBDII under the dash and give you multiple readouts, including rpm, temp, trans temp, EGT (if you add the sensor), and fuel rail pressure (so you can watch your fuel rail pressure drop when the truck stalls out). I'm guessing lift pump as well.
