I have a pair of 68 Dart bulge hood inserts that I want to repaint and have a few of questions. A great deal of the original paint is worn off so I don't have much to go by. The first question I have is, is the base area that runs the length of the louver and goes around the three sections that stick out supposed to be black or silver? It looks like it was black but just want to be sure. Second, there are some remnants of the silver paint left on the outside of the three sections that stick out that looks grainy like textured argent. Is there a hardware store rattle can textured paint that is similar to that in texture and color? And third, I need to repaint the orange inside the three parts that stick out as well. Do you think hemi orange engine paint would be similar to the original orange?

I don't believe it is Hemi Orange. I had an NOS set and it was much redder and not quite as orange as Hemi Orange, and in 1968 there was only engine paint in that color, Hemi Orange did not appear on cars until 1969.

Looks like the shade of Hemi orange that's close to the Chev orange
