So I'm trying to figure out how to make this work.
I have a 63 savoy wagon. small block 3 on the tree car. The original engine is not present, but the 3 on the tree is still there(including the bell and flywheel), as is most of the rest of the car.
I have lots of Big block stuff, and I have put big blocks in these old ones before, but I want this too be a mellow cruiser.
That said, I have a strong running 97 5.2 magnum in a running Jeep grand cherokee I am parting out.
Of course, it is an automatic. What I see as a visible problem, is the crank sensor in the bell housing. Clearly I could modify the 3 speed housing to hold one, but the sensor sees windows, that are in the flexplate. The flywheel from the 63 obviously does not have these. I have seen that rams of this vintage were available with manual transmissions.
Does anyone have Any idea what combination of clutch/flywheel/ bell housing I could mash together to make this work?

97 Dakota had a manual option, not sure if that flywheel would fit your bell.

Not sure it would even be worth the trouble. That is probably the unsynchronized first gear trans that is a weak kneed pile as it is.

Depends on which trans it had but for the most part the bell is integral.
I think the NP535 (early and weak 5 speed) had a bolt on bell like the one you have.
Then you have the AX15 style that sorta bolts on but that one would be fun to adapt.

As many times as this has been asked, I'm surprised that no-one has made a window wheel to fit the damper and use a factory sensor. Either make a separate plate with the correct amount/location of "windows" to sandwich in between the damper and crank pulley, or weld a ring to the pulley. I don't know if you would need a factory sensor - if an aftermarket crank trigger sensor would provide a proper signal to the ECM.
The advantage of doing it this way would be it wouldn't matter what trans you wanted to run, and for the most part Mag dampers, covers, etc. are all the same.

I'd copy the factory Mag motors flexplates hole locations and scale down the holes size and spacing accordingly to the diameter change. I think the flexplate/crank sensor signals #1 and crank location, and the dist pickup signals cam location and directs coil output to selected cylinder.

Can you find another place to monitor crank position? Didn't the TBI small blocks have the crank sensor on the harmonic balancer?
You could always just go with a 4 barrel manifold.
I'm curious how the Magnum will fit under the hood with the barrel intake.
No longer taking $h!t from anyone!
