01 dakota with a 4.7 and over 200000 miles on it,wont take off in drive,start out in manual low then shift to drive and its ok,whats up?,i think its a 545rfe but not really sure as it belongs to my sis in law and is 200 miles from me,dont think the fluid has ever been changed!

There should be a code or two in the pcm, the trans sounds like it's in limp in mode.

Nothing in drive from a stop and works in manual low. The sprague that holds the rear drum is bad. Manual low the rear band also stops the drum from rotating. While in drive no band is applied and sprague not holding so no low gear. Definitely don't give it any throttle in drive while it seems to be acting to be in nuetrel as the front drum is being spun at a rate of 2.2 times engine rpm.
