Tucson AZ,
As some of you are aware, I'm rebuilding the 47RE out of my truck. Long story short, I found the 3-4 accumulator spring was broken today. I'm not sure I ever noticed anything "off" about the 3-4 shift but am curious what the symptoms may have been that I missed and what I should expect once it's fixed. Thanks for any help, as always. -Trent

hi
common problem with that spring , the one in my 5.9 diesel was broken .

i installed a transgo tfod-diesel kit in mine .

this kit has a spring kit consisting of 3 springs that are all installed to replace the factory one spring .

i id not know mine was broken till i was installing transgo kit .

just gives a more consistant shift feel when working right .

280,000 miles when i installed the kit .

Tucson AZ,
Seems to be a more common failure than I originally thought. After I found it was broken, I snagged a good used one from the junk yard. When I got back home I saw that the housing for my detent ball and spring had a small crack forming so I went back to the junkyard and grabbed a spare valve body for parts. I took the newly acquired spare valve body apart tonite and wouldn't you know it, that one has a broken spring also.

I went ahead and ordered a new spring a bit ago that's suppose to be thicker and better quality. I'll run the good used one from the junkyard for now and install the new one when I change the fluid and filter after a break in period on the rebuild. On a side note, I saw something that said to inspect this spring every 50,000 miles. Hard to believe they wear that fast but I'm starting to beleive it. I'll certainly keep an eye on them in the future that's for sure.

Oh well, It'll be interesting to see if I notice a difference once I get it back together anyhow. Thanks for the input and Happy Easter. -Trent up

That's the one I ordered. It said it was an upgrade at .126" but all three that I have on my bench are .126.", two of which are broken and one that has a slight bend to it. I would be surprised if all three were already upgraded and failed. I guess I'll have do a little more homework. work
