I have been running D07 Hoosier 30/9" Bias-Ply slicks. Problem is that the delivery date from Summitracing just keeps on moving.

So my question is - Would the softer D05 tires be an ok substitute, eventhough my car is heavy, weight race ready is 3891Lbs?? OR should I just wait patiently to get the D07 tires.. (worst part is I have other stuff waiting for shipment, and/but I dont want to pay for two shipments over to Europe..)

I can NOT fit any other 30" diameter tire, so no M/T or Racemasters, etc... they all have to much side-side wall widht! And the track I run at has not got the trackprep to hook a radial tire!

Thanks!
/Tom

I know you say a radial wont hook at your track and many said that over hear also. But I can tell you I have no problem hooking with my 30 x 9 Hoosier radials as they hook just as good or better for me on my 63. As long as I stage in the groove (tire tracks) that everyone launches from it hooks great. And thats on average prepped tracks. Heck I ran the same et three passes in a row a few years ago. Sorry as I really cant help you though with your question but I just wanted to let you know how much I like the radial slicks I use and I drive on the street with them as they handle great since I run radials up front. Good luck with your car , Ron

Thank you for your reply. Thing is there is probably only a handful who run on radials over here, and they run in the slow end of the bracket class. One could say that there is also a kinda negative attitude towards radial slicks, guess we are a little behind over here.. I also think its because nobody has any real experience with running radials and because we do not have any where near the same possibility to race and T/T as you guys over in the US. Also one major issue is that because we have so few race dates, the track prep is not that great..

I did actually buy a set of M/T radials, but I planed, like so many other over here, to just use them as street tires. I have how ever played with the idea to try them out at the track and see how and if they work... but as Im writing this, I would place my money on that the bias-ply slicks are the right tires to run...

Thanks!
/Tom

I'd wait for the do7. The do5 was to soft for my car and would spin. Especially as the track got hot and greasy.
I gave radials a try to but our track wasn't good enough and they'd spin and shake the tires occasionally. Broke the tail shaft once and the ring and pinion. Switched back to do7 bias and been happy.

Tom I also forgot to ask if your car is an auto ? As most guys with stick cars say the radials dont work good for them. Ron

I've found that 5 is a good compound for all conditions I just adjust the pressure to accommodate the different track conditions. Weight transfer is what you need for any tire.If you can't move the weight to the rear at launch, that 9" won't do you any good. 9" slick is all the stockers can use. Lots of HP and weight moving at the green. They have very good track prep in order to launch. If its a poor prep, not many of the HP cars, are going straight or hooking. Many cars are detuned to make it down the track. I'm working with tubes since the end of last year. My car dead hooks all the time with a little burnout.
