I had an 8-point roll bar put in my car, and I told them I was going to use my stock bench seat, as I expect the car to only go low 11's. After getting the car back and sitting in the seat with a helmet on, I found that my helmet is about 1" from the top of the bar or less. Is it possible to modify a main hoop by making a new top section and having them welded together with an inner sleeve, or am I going to have to get the entire bar redone?

Lower the seat, unless the bar is 5-6 inches from the headlinner you're setting to high anyway.

I always have to bolt my seat directly to the floor or on a short slider. Years ago I went to the track without testing my helmet room, needless to say I had to make a pass with my head sideways. shock

In my Duster my Kirky seat bottom is 3-1/2" off the floor, I'm 6-2 and might need to be lower or tilted back a little. Always put helmet on when measuring.

You can't modify the main hoop. Best to adjust the seat height. I'm 6'7" and it's a miserable task fitting myself in correctly.

I have been looking at different options for lowering the seat, or putting in a low set of bucket seats, but I just wasn't sure about the option of modifying the top of my main hoop. Thanks guys. Any suggestions for a comfortable short seat, as this car is going on drag week this year?

Lower the sat all the way.. angle it back as much as
you can and still be legal on the helmet.. see how
far you can move it forward and still be comfortable
and you want to rest your thighs on the seat

My advice, set in the seat now and find the right distance from steering wheel. Mark that spot on the floor then take the sliding track off and bolt seat to floor. Add spacers up till it feels right, doesn't need to move foward or back once done. Same with single seat.
