Been trying to figure this one out. My Cordoba has a Big Block 727. I,for some reason, cant get the tranny dipstick to go in all the way like it should. It sticks up approx 1/4-1/2 inch from where it should seat.

I tried using a Tranny Dipstick out of a 75 Newport with a 400 and it wont go in to the Cordoba Tranny either.Same situation, regardless which dipstick I use

Anyone ever seen this sort of thing, whats the remedy,am I gonna need to drop the pan?

Put a smear of black RTV around the O-ring and that area on the tube. It'll slip in easy!!
(most things do with a little lube!!!)

Its not the tube, its the dipstick itself that wont go in.

Im tempted to remove the tube to see what the obstruction is. Will I lose alot of fluid?

Have you tried turning it around and sticking it in.

Someone may have placed a magnet in the wrong spot in the pan. See if the dipstick will pick up metal or filings.

Has the pan been buckled up under the dipstick tube?

Has the cup at the top of the stick moved up futher than it should? I have seen them slide up past the little tabs that are supposed to keep them in place.

Ill check that, but IIRC I put both the dipsticks I had for BB 727 side by side and they were both the same length and the "cup" that seals the top of the tube, were both in the same place. Ill double check tommorrow

Try bending the last inch of the stick one way or the other, if it still won't go in it might be a misplaced magnet as suggested earlier.

Yes and make a big mess. You may try jacking up that side of the car real high though first.

did you service the transmission? i've seen some pan gaskets that block the dipstick.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, but it was none of the above. I put a large pan under the tranny and worked the Bolt and dipstick tube out. I then found my obstruction in the dipstick tube.

Anyone know what it is?

What does it do,is it important?

How did it get jammed up down in the dipstick tube?

Hope its not too important,I tore it up with my long Needlenose trying to fish it out.

That's the piece that goes in the cup at the top of the stick as a seal.

Its the rubber seal that goes in the cup next to the handle on the stick, slide it up on the stick to the cup it helps lock the stick in place

Is it not kind of strange for it to be all the way at the bottom of the tube? Man these old cars never cease to make me and get at times
