Whats everyones opinion, when you are file fitting piston rings do you use a torque plate or no. Just curious ....

NO
There are race shops that do it or say they do it
No one here can prove that a thou or two makes you faster
Probably no one here can prove .008 thou makes you win races
It sounds good but.....there are other things that really matter and what you are talking about is interesting but ...there are a dozen other things that will matter much more if rings don't butt then you have no ring issues and I have never seen but one or two that ever did the gap is so you can install it on the piston
A plate can really move some blocks a lot and others almost zero but in the end it is splitting hairs IMO
Getting ring square in the bore before measuring is important as you need to get

I use to use my torque plate when I was racing my 415 HP M.W. NHRA stocker when I was pushing the ring end gap to close tsk I found out later that setting the top ring end gap above the then recommended mninumims(.016 to .017) made the car faster and quicker work
Push the rings down to the bottom of the ring travel and check the end gap their thumbs
