Ok guys I'm in need of a service truck to help out with my trucks..I found a 6cylinder ram with service body on it at a good price not very many miles on it for the year model..I'm wondering would I be asking to much out of the 6 cylinder in this truck..it would have to carry tools tire change tools air compressor. Maybe a tire or 2 from time to time..I've never had a 6 dodge only my 318 d150 and a 4.7 1500..any help would be appreciated

I don't know which V6 Dodge put in trucks in 2001, but as I understand, the 3.7 V6 motor had some issues similar to the 4.7 V8. If it still has the 3.9, it will work good. A bit under powered if really loaded (not going to win any races), but is should do the job. The V6 motors only got about 2-4 mpg better mileage then the 318s, and were a little less powerful. Gene

I like the 3.9 V6 engine. Good work horse. Not much for speed, but certainly plenty. I have NEVER heard tale of a broken one from Dodge, but LOTS of broken ones in Ford and GM big trucks (even the mid sized!). It's hard to overlook the classic LA design for longevity!

Not sure how much of a difference 8 yrs would make, but, the V6 is a pretty capable engine. Fast? No, but not lethargic either.

While I don't have steep hills around here, my '93 Dakota has no problem with loads.

In the two years I've owned mine though, one issue has started to come up, lack of aftermarket parts, even just repair parts, are drying up. I gave up trying to find the correct upper radiator hose for mine, and when I had to pull the intake off (again) a few months ago, the steel core silicone gaskets were no longer available.

(When I bought my Dak two yrs ago, one of the first things I did was upgrade the plenum gasket with the kit from Hughes. I'm not sure of the is available anymore either).

Still, I'd take another V6 if the price was right.
