Building a 470 stroker. Got an XR286 hyd. Roller from comp cams and 1.6 rockers. Starting to second guess this is to much for comfortable street/cruising. Any thoughts?

Definition of "street cruising" is in the eye of the beholder. With very careful component selection (rockers, springs, lifters) I believe it can work and live OK on the street. Duration is not real high so it will have some personality but not radical. This based on specs... I have never run a hydraulic roller. I do run (on the street) a fast rate MM lobe solid FT with roughly comparable specs.

In terms of making the valve train work at higher RPM and and live, a 1.5 rocker may be safer with that hydraulic cam.

Which cylinder heads and what size and type intake, carb and exhaust system?
That cam is not real big to me, but I'm a racer and want as much power as I can get, even in my street cars devil
I have a 464. C.I. pump gas 440 motor in a car,1966 Dodge Coronet Deluxe two door sedan 4 speed, I'm putting together now that has a Comp Cams XE295HL hydraulic flat tappet cam in it, nasty sounding, good running up
That motor with a stock type Eddy sixpak ran high tens through the muffs in my 3450 lb. pump gas Duster boogie
The bigger the motor C.I. wise the more air and fuel it needs work thumbs

Running a 750 Demon, edelbrock torker, headers. It won't see a drag strip but I want it to run and sound good but also be no problem cruising 8 hours to Mopar Nats or Power Tour. I was thinking the 1.5 ratio rockers would be just fine, but Comps tech guy said go with the 1.6.

A 750 barely feeds small blocks these so at LEAST go 850-950 so the poor thing can eat..........HS rockers will just about out live the car but a bit $$$...........good luck........ thumbs

I got HS 1.6 ratio for it and 440 source aluminum stealth heads. I was thinking the 750 may be a little small.

iagree
Do not buy and run any carb. smaller than a true 850CFM twocents BB Mopars, especially stroker motors, love more air and fuel up

Intake manifold question. I need everything to fit under factory hood on my 68 Road runner. What would be the best intake. I've had both Holley Street Dominator and Edelbrock Torker before and I know everything will clear and then some. Thoughts?
Thanks again

Try fitting and using both of those and go from there. scope
I would then think about selling them to buy a Eddy Performer RPM intake if neither one of those made you real happy and put a big grin on your face when you got on it work wrench hammer

Is this a low deck 470? If so you should have more hood room so the Performer RPM might fit just fine.

If you already have the 750 carb I'd keep it and see how it works for you. If you are going to be doing mostly street driving then a 750 is plenty big. If this is a street car then I'd suggest switching to EFI if you can afford it. If not then the Edelbrock type carbs will probably work better on the street than a Holley DP.

I would think the Eddy RPM intake should fit under your hood. I run the Indy dual plane which is alot like the Eddy RPM as both are dual plane intakes and they look alot alike. And this fits under the hood of my 63 with me using a 440 RB block. If your not racing it any at the track I think you will like the low end and mid range with the RPM. I race mine sometimes running the dual plane intake. The single plane intake will pull more up top usually but they work better with alot of gear and converter and on the track. My sons 11.40's Dart was about 1/2 tenth faster in the 1/4 with the RPM over the single plane Holley Street Dominator even though the single plane SD pulled 1 more mph. The RPM had a much better 60 ft and 1/8 mile. I like the Indy dual plane on my car since its mostly a street car. It may go faster at the track with a single plane but it has nice low end and mid range with this dual plane as I love the way it responds on the street with the dual plane intake. Ron

Yes Sir, It's a low block 470 and I do already have the 750 Demon. I also have a Mopar Performance single plane intake. P 4532176. It's the tallest with I think a 4.6 inch height.
