Are all dip sticks and tubes the same for big blocks? i.e. 440 I have an 1968 440 industrial block....and need a dip stick and tube. Will any big block set up work?

Thanks

As far as I know, yes. I've tried several and had the best results with the stock replacement style from Mancini. It worked fine with headers for me. As an added benefit this is the lowest cost approach. Good used would be even cheaper. I did have to sand down the end that inserts in the block to get it to fit. I also used a trick from MOPARTS to press it in - a 3/8 crows foot wrench on a long extension. Put the crows foot above the dimple in the tube and tap in from above.

The best way to fit them is drill the block hole slightly larger. Then seal the tube with RTV. You'll be a whole lot happier. You can do it even with the engine assembled. Just flush the pan with solvent.

Bad idea. The block doesn't ever need to be drilled out to accept a dipstick tube. All that does is cause leaks from a loose tube.

I don't think this is a good idea. Then you have a block with a hole too large. I have installed lots of dipstick tubes and have never had any problem installing them. I would never drill and then wash cast iron shaving down in the oil pan.

I would try putting the tube in the freezer for a half hour and it should install easier in to the warmer block.. Just a thought!!

I have built every big or small block motor that way since 82. Not one has leaked. The shavings will rinse out. I didn't say drill the hole to 1/2".,just a slip fit. Many of the new GM factory dipsticks are slip fit. Yes,I work on the dark side. 27 years as a dealer tech. If it comes back I do it for free. Thats why I make sure its right the first time

Just because you have done it that long doesn't make it right by any means and if you had done that to my block you would be buying me another one. You never drill the block you sand the tube. I've been building motors since the 60s and never had to drill one ever.
