Looking at potentially replacing the mrl solid roller lifters in my 91 LA block with a set of comp endure-x lifters (#828-16). I bought the mrl lifters because they didn't need clearancing of the block for the link bars and the price was right (450 a couple years ago, 650 now 😮).

Just wondering what experience is with the comps and if they need grinding of the block? With lifters being a wear item I've thought about replacing mine for peace of mind but this has halted that decision at this point until I get more info

Any input is appreciated!

Spend the extra money!

If your block is a pre mag roller block you will do alot and as well on some cams the link bar will sit on top of the lifter boss and need to be notched because of the small base circle.

If its a std. LA block you will only have to grind in a few spots to get them in.

If you are looking to change them out, check out the Comp 8043's. They have inboard link bars and require no clearancing on the block. They will clear either LA or Magnum liter bosses. I think the ones you have are rebuildable through BAM. The people that make them.

I have a 360 with those lifters in it. It didn't require any clearancing but it is tight, no problems though. My cam is .640ish lift and I had to tube the block.

The lifters BPE mentioned are supposed to be nicer, and the moved link bar obviously helps.

Thanks for the replies so far guys! My block is tubed also, which I would imagine negates any effects of pressure fed rollers.

Rod, those lifters look similar to the ones I have...it's been a few years but I think the Mrl lifters I have run that reverse link bar, but I could be wrong. Who is BAM and what is their contact info? I'd rather have mine rebuilt then pay $650 for a new set of the same things...especially since mine are still ok at this point

Thanks!

Come to think of it, those lifters did clear on my old 360 block but not on the mag roller block.

Id have yours rebuilt as you mentioned.

You can find him on Facebook, he doesn't sell direct to the public so, you may have through a dealer. You could give MRL a call if they won't deal with you directly.

The 828's comps took a lot of grinding to get in my last la style small block so I bought a set of MRL lifters for my next build. They drop right in nicely.
