Has anyone had success installing a modern Chrysler telescoping steering column into (for instance) a 72 Satellite?
I would like the flexibility in order to increase comfort over long drives etc. Nothing worse than not being able to adjust the steering wheel to a comfortable height/depth.

I installed a 78 Wagoneer tilt steering column into a 72 Chevelle. Bolted in, minor wiring change

The Saginaw columns are modular and very swappable. If 72 Sattelite had tilt as an option, bid take the chance that tele would bolt up, just need the adapter harnesses.

Tilt and tele? work

If I was looking for just tilt, I would be looking at the later B's like '75-'79 Cordoba.

Tilt and tele I think only came in C bodies. I doubt one of those would simply bolt in, but I'd be looking at later C's.

If it doesn't have to be factory, there are companies out there like IDIDIT that sell universal tilt and tele columns.

Flaming River has a power tele column with memory...how much do you want to spend?

(note: I've never dealt with either company, just pointing them out)

I was looking at a modern Chargers steering knuckle the other day.

The rag joint looked awful familiar.

I wouldn't try a column newer than say mid 80's. That's when Saginaw started with column mounted wiper switch, column mounted dimmer and maybe a couple other things.

I'm pointing out the Saginaw columns because that's what Mopar used for tilt column and the tilt tele.

Finding a late b tilt column should be easy and a good start, might even bolt in. Grabbing a tele column from a caddy or newyorker put em on a bench and see if you can build one.

There's a reason the aftermarket columns are based on the Saginaw units.
