i am working on a car (1967)that has what appears to be a newer ps gear, what is the proper procedure to tighten it up a bit. doesnt need much. when i grab the pitman its a little sluggish/sloppy

when running is it sloppy? they have play in the wheel when not running & that might be a factor in the play you feel down below. On adjusting I would jack up the front wheels off the ground with them centered & idle it & see if it wants to pull. for adjusting it on that part you lightly tap the top piece forward or backward with it loosened a bit but still snug (there is more to it than that) but I would consult the FSM.

I would suggest you start with the procedure in the FSM.

as Robert said, when not running there is slack or slop and as both above said, consult a Service Manual. it is NOT plug and play. a wrong torque here and and there will land you in a ditch....
