First off the motor has been in the car for 4 years and hasn't been apart for 3. The first year I had some oil pressure and balancer problems but a new balance and a deeper oil pan solved that.
First observation with the motor is that the ET is down .15 and MPH is down 3+. I checked seat pressure on the springs and they are 89-90 lbs on the odd side head. This thing will still pull to 7500 without a miss, long and short of it is I went to a deeper gear and didn't realize it went that high. The springs are 10 years old and had them checked 4 years ago when I built the stroker short block. I didn't check the other side. Just starting the teardown and inspection.
I also did a leakdown on a room temperature motor and it seem to be in the 40-60% range with most of it going out the rings. The directions said to warm up the engine and then test. So I don't know if that is good or not. I would think not.
The motor is a 416 with acast crank, scat H beams, and wiseco 20cc dished pistons. The cam is a cam motion .600 lift with
266@.050 for duration and ported smogger heads with a victor 340 intake. It has been a great motor that runs hard. This year I will try street driving so I would like a ring that is a little more durable.
I will tear the whole engine down and replace the rings and bearings and do a valve job on the heads as well as new springs, that I bought already.
What rings are you guys running? Anybody use the total seal gapless rings or ones like that? It has weisco cast moly rings that came with the pistons. I'm hoping to get my power back and if there is a better seal in the engine maybe a little more. Thanks Craig
