69 b body 383 i notice on some mopar eng that the vac advance is ponting at the number one cylinder on most eng,and i see on some eng the advance is pointed down almost like at a 6 o clock point, what would cause that advance to be pointed down in that direction and still fire up with no problem,is the distributor gear oil pump misaligned? thanks

almost all folks with a BB/RB point the can toward number one as thats really the only place where you can move the dizzy to set timing. so i guess the answer is yes, it's mis-aligned.

As long as the rotor is pointed at the #1 tab in the cap it will fire correctly, it doesn't know it is misaligned.
The oil pump probably doesn't care either. grin

I have mechanical Aptitude.

i took the long way around the block to answer laugh2 but yeah, it doesn't matter where the can points

If you are starting from scratch I'd be a good idea to clock the intergear so with you standing on the pass fender side: the can is straight up at 12 0'clock/#1 plug wire is at 5 0'clock/#1 cap terminal is just below the forward dist spring steel cap retainer strap. this maintains the OE standardization (helps prevent future mistakes) & most importantly lets the plug wires nestle the neatest with the shortest lengths possible (more critical on a SB). As said if at #1 compression ~15 BTDC on the dampener the rotor is at or fairly close but trailing past the cap terminal where the #1 plug wire is clocked (Rotor Phasing) then you are good. sometimes when swapping dists, different types have vastly different bottom tang to top rotor clocking. If it is running you are good as is.
