I have been working with a machine shop to have a set of billet valve covers built. The o-ring grove is going to be broached, and zig zag around the ( all 7 short ) bolts to seal the cover for max seal.. the covers are going to be flat top with a .375" radii all around the top for a clean look... All sides and top will be .150" thick to be able to engrave if one chooses and save weight. The rails are going to be .625" thick for no flex. The machine shop that is building these can Ingrave also.the pictured piece is a rail being cut out for fitment of the o-ring placement. if anyone's interested pm me.
Tony

Looks good. If DSR really did buy Indy then they might be interested in that CAD file. I'd think that a billet valve cover would be the logical choice for anyone with Predator heads. You should be able to build in a spring oiler option as well as put a bung in the top for a vacuum fitting and/or a relief valve for the pan vacuum.

Why make the walls so thick? I've done 0.080" and 0.060" thick, my next ones I am making 0.040" thick. Sure make the rails thick so they stay flat. All they do is keep oil in
Just my thoughts anyway

After using a set of sheetmetal covers for years, the covers were starting to crack, I want to get away from that...I can have the machine shop do anything I want. These covers should weigh slightly more than a sheetmetal cover, last a lifetime and be a few hundred more than a set of high quality sheetmetal covers...

I've never had valve covers crack myself, so I can see where you're coming from.
Best of luck with them

Thx. I will post pics when the first proto. cover is done. I have a rail we cut out with the o-ring grove cut in it, for fit and placement, a couple small tweak's to the o-ring and were ready to cut a cover... stay tuned....
