Check the alignment of the pulleys and the alt(if using one)... your out of alignment. Also you can get deep pulleys for most engines, use the shortest belt possible EDIT Also, check the alignment when the belt is tight, sometimes when you pull it tight it will twist the alt

try a cogged V belt. Try a top cog and if twists try a bottom cog.
The Dayco topcog belts I think they're called are the cure. I had the same problem with my old 496, perfect belt alignment but the damn thing would turn belts inside out the first time you flogged on it. Ended up buying one of those top cogs (had used them on a 318 previously) and no more jumping . It did squeal every time you free revved it though, I just attributed it to the fact I powder coated my pulleys

If it ran very long in the upside down or twisted way it may take that set and do it everytime reguardless. May want to go with a new belt, as recommended above.
If the belt twisted upside down... its a throw away, there's only 1 thing that can flip a belt... thats misalignment where the belt is loaded on one side of the pulley. I make my own pulleys for my crank and alt, I do like to make them a little deeper

My belt was jumping off after the new engine went in.Same pulleys, belt, etc.Went from rb to low deck. I found the alignment to be off about 1/8".Alt was slightly crooked.Could not see it with your eyes, had to use a straight edge.It only took one washer under the front two alt bracket mounts to cure the problem. Also, you stated this problem happened after a new belt went on.The old worn belt probably sat deeper in the groove and covered up the alignment issue. I had that problem last year. I found out my harmonic balancer had a crack in it at the snout. The balancer would wobble at high rpms. You might want to check it .

Yes throw the belt away and get a new one. I found out the hard way that once a belt has thrown it will keep doing it even if you fix the problem and the belt looks good. Ron
Does the same apply to serp belts?
Holds true on any belt but you will see the effect less with the serp belt(greater surface area). If you lay the belt on its side and it has a arc in it, its bad. The arc tries to steer the belt and pitch it off
