I have 12 of these coils. Bought a bunch of parts. These were in there. They are for forklifts if you look at the boxes but looking at the coils shows a number AIC-1355 which after googling shows they are oem Mazda RX8 coils. Forklift application was a Mazda engine so it makes sense.

I have four new in the box and 8 on the forklift brackets.

Is there any value in using these in a custom coil on plug application say on a wedge engine ?

I used to care but....... things have changed

Theoretically they could give a better spark especially at high rpm. The reason is that the coil has nearly two full rotations of the crankshaft to recharge between firings. The problem that I see is if you really went coil-on-plug in nearly any kind of a wedge engine you risk cooking the coils with exhaust heat. So you'd go with the coil and short plug wire or possibly a rigid insulated conductor.

The Electromotive ignition setup used this principle.

I think a lot of people call something like an LS coil "coil on plug" where it is really "coil near plug". There is lots of really hot factory coils out there on all kinds of cars. You might search around on the forums at MSEXTRA.COM and see what people say about those RX8 coils. That is the megasquirt support forum and it is global so there is a very wide range of vehicles and unique setups there.

The FIRST thing to determine, is if these are "smart" coils or "dumb" coils. Meaning they either have an internal ignitor or need an external one. Next question, is can your chosen ECU supply what said coil needs to work
