street pump , 6-7 psi , the race mech pumps put out 9psi and thats NOT good .
FYI I had a Carter street pump and with the engine just spinning with the starter it was pushing 8 psi which is apparently to much for the 6 pack carbs as mine were pushing past the inlet valves. I went with a factory style replacement which runs 5-6 psi and looks more correct also.

Thanks everyone for your help on this... I've found a Carter stock replacement at Summit (M4589) that is rated at 5.5 to 6.5 psi (and 120 gph). This sounds like it will be in the right range for my stock 440-6 setup, right?
An additional question though - On my existing fuel pump (which now appears to be an aftermarket Carter??) there is a fitting adapter and short steel line from the "OUT" side of the fuel pump leading up to the vapor separator unit. Was this how these were configured from the factory or did someone add this on later?
The new Carter I see at Summit only has two nipple type hose outlets... In that case, I would just need to run a rubber hose directly from the pump to the vapor separator, right?
Thanks again all for the help and suggestions!
what you show in the picture is the factory original line setup , the adaptor is to go to the non stock pump so the stock line could be reused .

Ok, Thanks a lot for the help!
I checked on RockAuto and found one which looks a lot like the stock one ... It's made by "Airtex" and has a model # of 4845 - which matches the Mopar # I see in my service manual. Unfortunately, the website doesn't list the gallons per hour or psi though.
So, unless anyone out there knows of any issues with this brand, I'll give this one a shot.
Thanks again all for the advice.
That part # sounds familiar to me. As far as the psi, once you get it installed you can check it with some help from a friend to 'spin' the motor and the use of a vacuum/fuel pressure gauge.

Thanks everyone for your help on this topic. I ordered one today. It's an " AIRTEX Part #4845 - for 440 w/High Performance Engine". And looks to be a good match to the stock one. One last simple question .. as I've never replaced a fuel pump on this car before .. What is the best approach to doing this? Should I take out the alternator and try to do this from above? Or is this something that I'll need to work on from below (not a lot of room there so just wanted to check first before tearing things apart). Also, about that hex bolt for the push rod access -- Will I always need to remove that when I remove the fuel pump or only if the push rod won't go back in? It looks like the vapor separator may need to come off as well to get to that bolt?? Thanks again for any tips/steps on this process for a first timer !

Take off the altenator , makes it easier , no reason to go at it from below .
As far as pulling the fuel pump pushrod , no need , get some grease on a finger , the rod will fall down, grease the rod and push it back up and it should stay up long enough to get the pump in. the pump probably won't sit against the block because of the eccentric on the cam so just suck it in wit hthe bolts slowly .

A slight dab of brown wheel bearing grease works good. You're not using enough to have any effect on the lube qualities of your eng oil
live every 24 hour block of time like it's your last day on earth

I spent an entire saturday when I was in high school changing a mopar big block fuel pump, on the street, in the cold (december) standing on a snow bank........ You can actually get the bolts started in the fuel pump but you cant tighten it when the push rod is in the way. When your 16 no one tells you this stuff. Took me an entire day to figure out the push rod fell down. An NO the beer wasnt consumed during the install, I was 16! (beer happened later, and I have the ticket to prove it! )
I used to care but....... things have changed
