In the overview it says steel. But that's a neat idea for the modern age, since 15s are getting kinda hard to find.

Not at that price

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

I was at US Wheel last week...could have got you some actual pics of them if had known..

As for price, they are a bit pricey on a number of their things..

(And what makes OP think they are aluminum by the way? as mentioned it says steel on their website..would use the normal steel 17" outers sold I would say)

I wonder how much caliper clearance there is?

Past offerings of 17" steelies used the same center as the 15's and a deeper hoop to match up. Little or no gain in brake clearance vs 15's.

If these actually have a bigger center and good brake clearance they may be interesting (and why the price is high?).

The "standard" 17" outers have a 15.470" ID.

(The 17" "custom" have a 14.228" ID, which is the same as a 16" large ID outer)

US Wheel has just got their own machine to roll outers, so not sure if they will go to a unique size or not.... (mainly since getting them from Carlstar like most of us did is harder for a while with their production leaving SoCal)

The reason I was under the impression the 17s were aluminum was an article in this months MCG which says they are,and I think we all know that mcg is nothing but the pure gospel truth always!
if the 17s are alum that could explain the price...

Well, a 17" outer (in steel) is about double the cost of a 15" one..

(The aluminum 17" vs 15" is not that much of a jump for what it's worth)

I read that also, saying the 17 inch version was aluminum. I'd like to try them on my retro 70 challenger, but at that price, I'd like to know for sure they are aluminum.

Aluminum may be the best way to keep the weight down. I notice they don't mention the weight at all on either web site. These likely weigh enough to create a discernable effect on the steering.
