Hey I need some help....I got the "Build it yourself 727 Video" So I watched it a few times and im feeling pretty confident and everything is going smooth until it comes time to hit tap on the input shaft with a rubber mallet so the pump falls out.....Yeah right is there some sort of trick to this. I removed All the appropriate snap rings, bearing, governor, pump bolts and it should just tap out right?

I have built a few motors so I figured hey why not a trans? Am I nuts? What is keeping the pump and drums from sliding out?

If you are refearing to removing the pump housing from the case there are 2 bolt holes that have threads for a 3/8's bolt. use a long bolt and thread them into the housing a little on each one to press the housing out of the case.

I have seen by buddy use a slap hammer to remove the pump from the front like that... What im trying to do is bang on the output shaft while the trans is pump side down. "In the video" he taps it and the pump and frond drum just falls out so nice.....?

All I ever do is use long bolts and thread them into the pump housing a little at a time on each one. Works great every time and the pump comes out in a nice controlled fashoin.

slide hammers are the preferred method. you can also use two bolts and a piece of chain, slip a bar through the chain and tap on the bar. if you thread bolts all the way through the pump you run the risk of damaging the case. it's also helpful to tighten the front band before pulling the pump so the guts don't come spilling out in an uncontrolled manner.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

The pump is frozen in there....Has this ever happened to anyone else??? I tied a slap hammer and welded up a puller like Dodgems and still no luck. It bent the angle iron!! In thinking there has got to be something holding it in there but I triple checked it and see nothing. So i soaked it with liquid wrench and in the morning im gonna go and get stronger angle and try it again.

Get the proper loooong bolts(10-12") and maybe 80 BIG flat fender-type washers.....40 per side.

It WORKS.

You screwed the bolts into the two threaded holes in the pump and not into the case right? Can you post a pic of what you have setup?

It threads nicely with no problems. Just when I crank down on it it didn't budge.

You are using nuts on the cross angle iron to pull it out right?
