what's everyone's recommendations for a high torque mini starter?

A remanufactured oem starter off a second gen Dakota, or Ram PU of that era, will do just fine.

Later ones have plug in wire connections, and the earlier ones (pre 1995?) have studs for the wires. The studded version should make life easier when adapting to an older vehicle.

A guy on FABO is selling these for $22 to your door for if there is a header fitment issue with the cables. EDIT May be a starter to block clearance issue (I ain't that far yet). But I figured I needed it.

I loved the late factory Mopar unit on my 440 Dart. Spun it good and fast.

Pulled a factory starter off a junk 89 Dodge van 3.9L. Got it for free. Lasted over 12 years. Replaced it with the same one since I had a core when it went bad. Fits great on a 360 LA W/ headers.

Use one for a 360 ram about 99 or so.They are supposedly the stoutest.Mines been in since 2000.Reman from Advanced. My kid bought new from 440 Source for his 413 and it was in 7 years when he sold the car. That piece usually comes off. Some you have to trim the studs as they are close to the block.Did mine.my kids fit no problem though.Rocky

I have one of the factory mini starters. We ok in my 413 and 440, but seems sluggish turning over the 526.

Got a mini from 440Source. Don't know if it's the same power as a factory one but I'd bet it is. Fed from battery in the trunk with 1/0 cable. Spins my 451 in near-freezing weather like the plugs are out up

Mine's a junkyard piece from a mid 90's dodge ram van. 20 bucks at the u-pull.

I had a PowerMaster unit, the housing had a bumpout on it that made it almost impossible to use the standard transmission mounting studs. After dealing with it for two installs (changing converter/engine rebuild), I went to Advance Auto and got a standard ministarter for a Dodge Diplomat. The housing doesn't have the stupid bumpout and installed easily. It spun over my 472 with 11:1 and locked timing at 34* without issue even when hotlapping. I'll never buy a special "aftermarket" starter again.

Standard Mopar ministarter works for most.

If you want a super trick starter, RobbMcC sells a pretty nice starter.
