Thinking about new heads for my classic stockcar. Current heads are production 360 units with very minimal work. Valve tips vary about .100 in height and instead of freshening them up i'd replace them. Rules say they must be iron. no mention of valve size or porting in the rules so anything goes I guess. Motor is low compression 360 with Hughes whiplash cam and its very competitive when the tracks are less then perfect. I turn the motor 6,000 rpm at most. Thinking a set of EQ's. Any other thoughts? W2 would be nice but we have a intake height rule and I'm not sure budget would allow them anyway.

If you cant go with W-2s.. change over to Magnum
heads and intake.. but if its just the intake
height you could mill the W-2 intake down

I thought about the Indy X head. I like the fact my intake, rockers and headers would be reused saving some cash. Plus the small chamber should help in the compression department.

I'm not against w2 but our intake rule is 4-1/2 or 4-3/4 inches above the block. Do they make an intake like that for W2? Thhey would be nice to have that good of a head to put on a better short block down the road but rockers, headers and intake would kill my budget. Mr.P don't you have some W2's laying around? I have some gen 3 hemi stuff.

A W2 Street Dominator? I ran an la Street Dominator until I broke the corner when changing the cam. Running a knockoff version of the airgap manifold now which is drilled for both LA and Magnum bolt patterns. It's pushing the rules for sure but I had to get it back together

I have a W-2 Strip Dominator in the shop.

If I can get into the shop tomorrow I will go take an measurement and tell you how tall it is. If it keeps snowing I may not be able to get in there without some digging.

Mr.P econo heads wouldn't be bad. I'm in no big hurry if you have a chance to find them let me know. Maybe some gen 3 hemi trade? I know you snowbird so it will be awhile.

Madscientist. Keep the snow. Cold but dry winter here. At this point I'm fine if I don't get the snowmobile out this winter. If you get a chance to get that measurement let me know. Thanks

The EQ's do require Magnum rocker gear right? Robert if I every get some gears for the big track I'll bring the Plymouth to I-80 and let you know. I mite be able to do a race at eagle with what I have for gears

Right now I'm running .506 intake and .513 exhaust. That's assuming the 1.5 rocker ratio. May go bigger if I put a better short block together. Are W2's worth bolting on without doing some port work?

Just measured a W2 Strip Dominator. Straight edge across the carb flange. 4 1/2" @ Front / 5 1/2" @ Rear. Hope this helps.

Obviously no snow in Tuscon!!!!

I didn't think it had 1 inch of taper though.

I looked and the rules say 4-1/4 but it doesn't say how to measure other then to the block surface. Any room to mill the carb flange?

Damn, a quarter inch off of the plenum is one thing but to get an inch and quarter off would be tough.

I used to build some circle track stuff, even went to some rules meetings. Almost always went to a fist fight, because the rules to save money generally don't save money but really cost money.

So I just learned to deal with the rules but God knows I hate 2 bbl rules, cast iron head, intake, exhaust rules and most rules to keep costs down.

As far as I'm concerned if one edge of that flange measures within the rules it's legal. If they want to argue about that then they can fix the rules. I'm already running the biggest car in the class and using stock chassis with a hydraulic cam motor. How much more do I need to give them metric chassis boys?
