Today a coworker was telling me about his latest acquisition, a '73 Jeep CJ5. Since I'm known at work as the "old car guy", he asked me about sources for parts... particularly sheet metal. Seems his is in need of floors.

Since I evidently need to live up to this "old car guy" status, what are the best places for Jeep parts? I'm guessing since Jeeps are so popular there's gotta be a bunch of vendors for them, right?

Can anybody point me in the right direction? Thanks a ton!

My Jeep is newer, but Quadratec and Morris 4 x 4 both sell parts for cj"s online.
That's why I bought mine...they are easy to work on and everything is available. Larry

I used Quadratec for the CJ7 I had. Lots of places sell CJ parts- including JC Whitney if I remember right. They are incredibly popular.

This is kinda what I figured... When he asked I was thinking, "Google is your friend". But I wanted to be helpful and find places that I could say people had actually done business with.

FWIW, I know what you're talking about when you say popular. My dad had a Willys Jeepster, and even they enjoyed some spill over thanks to the popularity of the Jeep in general.

Yeah, I happened to see that too! And shared that link with him. Now I have to be careful, because I've got the garage, compressor and welder... might be time for me to shut up! If I had to guess I'd say he plays soccer or goes fishing for fun, not wrenches on cars... Not that there is anything wrong with fishing!

You definitely want to have a good look at that CJ before you volunteer to put those floor pans in. Most CJ's around here don't have anything left to attach those floor pans to, and then if you look at the frame, there isn't much left of those either. No one around here turns loose of a CJ unless its rotted away to where almost nothing left to save. Gene

It's funny, but it's true. You can build a CJ from the ground up out of a catalog, including an entire frame, an entire body, etc...every part you could ever need is available.

Forgot to mention the frames like to rot by the rear spring perches. It's a common enough problem that you can buy a frame cap for them through Quadratec. Also check the mounts for the transfer case/skidplate and up front by the steering box.

I have had 3 2wd Postal Jeeps, one of them had a 350 Chevy in it, in addition to my CJ7. The CJ I had a love/hate relationship with. It was one of the happiest days ever when I sold it, but I also miss them enough that I'm casually looking for another.

Years ago our rural postman used the right hand drive postal jeeps, had several for parts.....made good money off them when he retired.

Thanks for the advice guys! Gotta say though, it belongs to the coworker and he's merely an acquaintance and not really a friend. I've not seen the CJ and most likely never will, unless he happens to start driving it to work.

We're in North Carolina, so unless it's an import from out of state it could be really solid. Stuff around here doesn't rust like Northern stuff does... like the D100 in my signature--rocker panels and a small driver's side floor patch and it would be as good as new. Yep, you gotta love Southern sheet metal!

The early CJs don't have the frame rot problems that the later, boxed frame ones do. Just check up front by the steering box. I completely replaced the entire floor on my neighbor's CJ5 with parts from Classic Enterprises.
