I was thinking of installing a 2" lift kit on my 2004 Dakota 4x4. The kit comes with the levers for the torsion bars. Can't I just crank up my front torsion bar bolts to get the 2" lift for the front and not have to bother installing the levers in the kit?

I think that you will lose suspension travel to the unloaded state by doing that. The kit will keep the travel you have now.

Agreed.

It will also ride like garbage if you crank the bars up that much. Very stiff, steering will be crap whenever you hit a bump, etc...the kit includes levelers for a reason. Use 'em.

If I use the levers in the kit will I need to have a front end alignment?

It would be wise to have an alignment done any time you modify the suspension.
