Yes FL1A is the same Long filter as PH8A.

Overreact much?

The filter is NOT like a pot on a stove... smile

Well, I'm not a big fan of that filter location, or the fuel regulator location either.
Simplest fix for the oil filter location is to use an angled bracket on the upper (horizontal) surface of the apron and attach the filter mount to that. Hopefully you have enough hose length.
That's a pretty warm spot for a fuel regulator; better off near the rt front of the car, plumbed between mech pump & carb.
The overspray thing is just weird.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not disrespecting your ride.

I wouldn't hesitate to use the shorter filter. The recommended oil filter for a 2001 Ram 1500, 5.9 is the PH16 (or equivalent), which is significantly shorter than the PH8 which is probably on there now. However, as many here would suggest, use a high quality filter such as the Wix or NAPA gold.

I agree if there is wiggle room to raise or move the filter mount away from the header tube, by all means do it. You could also remove the filter and wrap that tube with heat resistant wrap and hopefully still gain 1/4-1/2" of space by relocating the mounting bracket. Or, change the hoses to longer ones, find a adequate mounting space towards the front of the car and solve your problem that way. Lots of options, with a little thought involved. What's wrong with the old faithful 90* adapter and clicking the filter rearward and away from the tube, unless you don't like being under the car to do oil changes..

If the filter wasn't relocated to cure header interference just put it back on the motor. Why risk priming with the way it's mounted now.

I'd just use the shorter filter and run it...

I believe we had header clearance issues.

I'd think that if heat was an issue in your application it's be an issue with either filter. Yeah, costs more in hoses to do that but it was easier to get to, cleaner to change out and I usually ran dual filters anyway.
Same here. On my Diplomat with a stroked 360, I used large braided line, ran it up to between bumper and core support where I also have a large B&M Super Cooler. Nice and cool up there, room to run a large filter, an so easy to do oil changes and no mess on my headers. With quality AN fittings it's leak free. I love it.

Here's my mount on the Diplomat AHB looking down, with big lines and an fittings. To the right is the big cooler. So worth it!

My big Baldwinn 237 Filter below bumper. It's not quite as conspicuous as it looks in pic. I'm squatting way down for pic.

I installed a WIX 51085 filter Tuesday night. Today I took the Dart to work. On the way home I encountered quite a bit of traffic with temps in the low 70's. Water temp never went above 190F and oil pressure was good. I've got ideas for a heat shield design.

I'd be much too concerned with a failing o-ring on the filter to put it so close to the headers. In that spot, if you have a fram filter collapse, or an o-ring blow out, you're pumping that oil directly onto the headers. One lesson I've learned and always keep in mind, if you have to over-engineer something or make something custom, especially on a street car, you're probably doing it wrong.
