Thinking again about buying a new truck. 3500 dually or single rear wheel auto, but would like to know what the mileage and reliability would be. I tow a goose neck trailer that weighs in at 17,500 loaded and am concerned about stability with a single rear wheel truck. Should I be? I see people that do it.

I looked at that but was hoping these trucks got better than 12-13MPG.

for the amount you expect to tow, a truck to be equipped to do the job mpg will suffer. Your trailer weight is equal to my combined weight, and am pretty happy with 11-13 mpg with trailer in tow. I've heard worse mpg numbers than 12-13 with the newer trucks towing big trailers, but most of those were 4x4 4.10 gear equipped. I have the feeling the 4.10 would better suit your needs.

I have a 2012 3500 single wheel crew cab long bed. I pull a 15,000 camper. It does great. I don't notice any loss of stability with single wheels over my old truck. It was an 84 crew cab dually with a 5.9 cummins and nv4500 conversion. I have a dually work truck with a tool bed. I'll never have another. Too many tires to buy. Car washes and some drive throughs are too small. Mileage for me is 10 mpg. I consider that good since its like pulling a parachute down the road.

12-13 MPG was unloaded. Pretty much sucks but not sure the GM or Ford are better.

10+ mpg @ a combined weight of 22.5 -25K pounds doesn't seem unreasonable to me.......

If it gets 10+. My current 2004 gets 8-10 towing now, and 15 average unloaded.

2014 2500 single wheel crew cab long bed 4x4. I pull a 11,000 5th wheel camper in the summer. I've only put on @ 5000 miles since I bought it in February.

I my Gas tracker app shows my avg is 13.5-16.5, mostly city driving when not pulling the camper. I have a light foot though, well most of the time.
