I have a dart drag car with a small block It has a older Mopar m1 single plane intake. My question is I am upgrading to a e85 dominator this winter with a 4500-4150 adapter. Should I upgrade intakes as well? It pulls hard to 7500 now. I just don't know about the spreadbore pattern it looks like it has. Thanks

Adapter and port and blend it in. Otherwise a Super Victor 340 would do the trick

The M1 single plane is a very good intake that can be made even better when you rework the spreadbore into a squarebore. The problem is cost and time to do it. While recarving the intake for the squarebore is cheaper than a new SV, I'm not sure if it will pan out better than a SV if your going to turn a lot of RPM's. Porting the entire M1 would make it an excellent intake at a hefty sum.

My question to you is; what are your heads flowing at your max valve lift?
Reason is, the intake should not be a restriction in anyway.

I weld all my SD's and the M1knock offs and make them square bore. Have for years. On a 340 inch deal, under 7K the gains are usually 12-15 HP and the torque curve is flatter.

As the displacement, RPM or both go up, you need both plenum volume and shorter runners.

The gains can be even more impressive on the bigger RPM/displacement engines.

Haven't done a SV yet, but the Victor was a power loser every time I tried one over the SD/M1 that has been corrected.

One of my pipe drams is to find a decent used SD/M1 and modify it correctly for a TQ. I think that would be worth 8-10 HP over a Holley of equal air flow.

Maybe someday I'll test it.

Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

Have you ever tried to make one of those intakes fit a 4500carb without an adaptor? Just somthing i have thought about from time to time but never tried or got around to even measure if there was enough material there.

I do not beileve that the M1 or SD has the meat to allow a port matching for a Dominator carb.
I do beileve the best way to get a Dominator on top is with an adapter. Though I think a plenum rework would still be in order for best results.

The only time I have noticed a Victor being better is in the top RPM end of the power band. 6500+ most of the time. Mid range for torque sometimes. (Very good for circle track I think.)
Still, it is an excellent intake.

Funny this came up. I have two dominator a sitting here and I'd like to use one, but I don't want to change hoods.

I was thinking about making a 1.5 inch thick aluminum plate that fit snugly around the outer sides of the plenum, welding it in there, and then making the dominator bolt on without the adapter.

I just don't know it it's worth it if you can fit it all together with an adapter.

This is a M1 and you can see that the sides will
be close but the front and back will clear easy..
is other manifold is a 420 that I am working on..
but I milled it out to fit a 4500.. there is still
good wall all the way around and I think the M1 will
bee the same

LMAO! I have to say, when he said "M1", I wasn't thinking of a W5 M1 intake but just the standard regular everyday M1 you would see on a 340/360 with the spreadbore carb pad.
